More About Race/Ethnicity & Income in Mortgage Applications & Denials: Single family mortgages are loans that an individual or family borrows from a financial institution in order to pay for a single family home. An individual needs to make regular payments to pay-off the principal cost or the loan, and then they also need to pay for the interest of the loan that accumulates over time. Mortgage application acceptance, denial, and the quality of mortgage are an important arena of American racial inequality, that determines residential access and social opportunity.
